A Blood Donor Saved Me

Driving to work today I noticed a sign in the median. I’d seen the sign many times before, but today it caught my attention; the local church was hosting a blood drive.

I never considered donating blood or even thought about the life it might save. It would require me to sacrifice my time and endure some discomfort to participate. Surely, there would be someone else willing to donate. They really don’t need me.

As I passed by the sign again, I started to think about how Jesus shed his blood on the cross to save me. He knew the pain he would endure but was willing to die so that I could live. The shedding of his blood gave me the hope of life everlasting.

I was humbled by the supreme sacrifice by God of His son Jesus on the cross. Without the donation of His precious blood, I would be lost, dead, and without hope of salvation.

The sign in the median reads “BLOOD DRIVE TODAY: Will you help to save a life?” I think I will be a little late for work today.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

Ephesians 1:7 (NRSV)

Prayer: God of mercy, God of grace, thank you for your son Jesus, who through His precious blood saved me so that I may, one glorious day, commune with You in eternity. In Jesus’ name. Amen
