In bloom,
scarred Dogwood bows.
Crossed petals, crimson stain,
His sacrifice was not in vain.

According to popular Christian legend, the dogwood was said to have been used to construct the cross on which Jesus was crucified. Moved by the tree’s sorrow for its role in the crucifixion, Jesus is said to have blessed it, decreeing that the dogwood would never again grow large enough to be used for such a purpose.
The word “bows” was chosen for its connotations of respect, humility, and transformation.
