Going Green

Under attack, my fortress is weak;
Resistance is futile, no refuge I seek.

With measured advance, the monster draws near;
Waves of distrust, harbingers of fear.

The sting of rejection, as it pierces the skin;
Anger’s first blood, the struggle begins.

What of the heart, when jealousy calls;
Submission the sentence, a jail with no walls.

My quiver is empty, the battle is lost;
A bend of the knee, the one final cost.

Inside my mind, the monster now lives;
Now and forever, no quarter to give.
